On January 18th, we host the seasonal rite of WASSAIL to raise the winter spirit of the community. Her goal is to encourage viewers to think, feel and dream. Sarah Stivers paints using large canvases with oils in a narrative style with hints of surrealism in her brushstrokes. Mostly, her thanks go to the incredible foresight of Teddy Roosevelt, his chief forester Gifford Pinchot (a Missoula resident later in his life) and environmentalist John Muir who worked to set aside millions of acres of public land to remain mostly untouched for the future. This series is a ‘Thank You’ to all those who have worked tirelessly to preserve millions of acres for future generations to enjoy. Her life since has been consumed with chasing mountains and documenting them with photography and oil paint. Her life would be forever changed by that summer, first of five, mostly spent hiking in the back country. While a student at University of California Davis, Sarah Stivers first set eyes on Glacier National Park while working at the Park Cafe and Grocery in St. Public Lands series, oil on canvas and board by Sarah Stivers RAISE A GLASS – RAISE AWARENESS – RAISE MONEY
